A healthy relationship is a source of great meaning and support, but sometimes the differences and intense emotions between partners can result in an experience of disappointment and distress. Couples Counseling can help strengthen the relationship by facilitating effective, healing conversations about the struggles, fears and needs that each partner has. Couples Counseling (also referred to as Couple Therapy or Marriage Counseling) helps intimate partners improve communication skills, reduce conflicts, strengthen their connection, and explore the nature and meaning of their life together.
At APPLE FamilyWorks, we strive to ensure that each partner’s voice is truly heard by their partner. We look to understand both partners’ positions, guiding each member of the couple to feel greater empathy and compassion for their partner. We also seek to interrupt unhealthy communication patterns, giving the partners practical tools for reducing miscommunication and managing conflict more effectively.
Couples often come into Couple Therapy when their relationship is in crisis. Our licensed and intern therapists are trained to manage crises and help couples work together more collaboratively in order to cope with or diffuse the crisis. Sometimes the nature of the crisis is such that it may be time for a transition out of the relationship and couples therapists can help the couple make that transition in as healthy a way possible.
Our therapists are highly trained and skilled in helping families meet a broad range of goals including:
- Reducing depression, anxiety, stress
- Improving communication problems
- Reducing the intensity and frequency of conflicts (such as those regarding child rearing, finances, extended family, substance abuse, etc.)
- Deepening intimacy
- Increasing support for the self-growth needs of each partner
- Healing the wounds of infidelity
- Strengthening the sexual relationship
- Exploring the possibility of separation or divorce
